Ready for your Exam?

Exams are a pain. And a lot of stress. Which is why you should prepare for them properly so that they are less stressful and so you can perform better on them.

Whilst trying to find out how I can study better for my exams by reading Jade Bowler's book 'The Only Study Guide You Ever Need', I came across the acronym 'morning'. M stands for Materials, O for Organisation, R for Revision, N for No Stressed Conversations, I for Inhale, Exhale, N for Nice Reward Later, and G for Go For It.

I've never forgotten about it ever since then and found that it is really important and helpful in making sure that one is prepared for their exams whilst maintaining their cool. Exam season is just starting for me so I thought it was only suitable to share this with you all (so for those of you who just finished your exams, sorry I'm late).

M - Materials

The day before the exam, make sure you know what you need for the exam. Prepare them and put them away in your bag, ready to be used when they're needed. Don't leave this for last minute because you might forget something. If you're not prepared, you may end up missing on marks, especially if, for example, you forget your calculator for a calculator exam or the something of the likes.

You can prepare by creating a checklist well before preparing for your exams and work through it when packing your bag. Also, you can double check in the morning before you leave your house that you have everything.

O - Organisation

You must be organised at all times. This will be very useful and make the entire process so much easier for you when it comes to the process of examination because organisation could mean that you have packed your bag in a way that is neat and tidy so you don't have to rummage around for whatever material you are looking for, or it could mean that you don't end up going to the wrong exam room where your test isn't being done, or it could even mean preparing for the wrong exam. In fact, organisation could mean all of the above in one go!

R - Revision

It doesn't hurt to go over everything one more time and make sure that you really are ready, however revision should be structured on the morning of the exam. Do not cram everything last minute, because that is not the way to do it, but refresh your memory and your brain a little bit so that you are in the zone.

N - No Stressed Conversations

DO NOT have a stressed conversation with your friends and peers. Talking about how stressed and scared you are will only make the situation worse. Avoid these conversations at all costs, whether it is by changing the subject, letting your friends know that you refuse to discuss that specific topic or even removing yourself from them if you have to. Surrounding yourself with positive and supportive individuals would be better as they will help increase your esteem and confidence.

I - Inhale, Exhale

If you're constantly worrying and stressing about the exam, you won't be able to work at your optimum. Take it easy and take a little pause. Take deep breaths in and out slowly so that you can calm down. Now that you are in a calmer state, you'll be able to tackle it better.

N - Nice Reward Later

Exams aren't easy and are milestones of their own. After each exam, reward yourself. You deserve it! Also, you'll be able to relax and rewind a little. Knowing that you have a reward after the exam will help you get through it as it provides motivation. Celebrate finishing each milestone you complete, because exams really are milestones.

G - Go For It!

Give it all you've got, try and try hard. You've got this, you can do this, you'll do great. I believe in you! Never give up on it, never quit because once it is over, it's not coming back. Give it your all and before you know it, it's done!

This acronym can help you get through the morning of the exam and all its stresses, as long as you take care of yourself by paying attention to your thoughts and feelings and responding to them appropriately, you'll do great. So, whenever exam season is arrives, remember MORNING and don't you forget it.

That's all for today. I'll see you in my next post. Have a great rest of you morning! ;)
