Quote of The Month: April 2024

“Your future needs you. Your past doesn’t. Don’t give up.” - unknown

Whilst I’m not sure about who came up with this quote, I found it in a YouTube compilation of motivational study TikToks. It struck me as a concept I hadn’t come across before and, being the avid quote collector that I am, I kept it because it felt motivating and meaningful -as if it made sense on face value, but needed you to stop and reflect on it to really appreciate its meaning.

The quote has two parts to it. One part is telling us to work now and to not wait for later so that we can achieve the goals that we want to achieve. To do it for the future you who you look up to and hope to become. To never stop trying to get there.

The second part tells us the move on from the past. What happened happened and won’t change now. There’s no point on dwelling on the past and thinking of it again and again because it won’t change. You’ll never be able to change it and if you don’t focus on the now or the future, you’ll loose those too.

Your future needs you because whatever you do now will impact it by making it a reality or not. What you must do is to get started now to build that future you dream of. As for your past, it’s long gone, it doesn’t need you and it won’t come back so there’s no point chasing after it.

This is a reality check many of us need because we tend to give up on things so that we can fall back onto old habits - even if we know they are not good for us. However, look at yourself. Is this how you want to spend your life? If so, continue the way you were in the past, for your previous actions are what got you here; if you don’t want to continue this way, you’ll have to make changes immediately so that you can see its fruits later.

If you ever see yourself slipping into your old ways, remember this quote and step away from those bad habits. Remind yourself why you are doing what you are doing. Remind yourself of your goal. Remind yourself why you want to make your dreams a reality. Once you remember all that, assess yourself: are you on track to achieving them or not? If so, keep going; if not, then make the necessary changes to get there. After all “Your past needs you. Your present doesn’t. Don’t give up.”

That’s all from me today. I’ll see you in my next post! Let’s give future us a helping hand now.
