There Are No Shortcuts To Success

Once again, we are back with another blog where we take something bad that has happened and turned it into a learning opportunity. For the past year also, there has been something going on in my life that has just annoyed me. I decided to make a blog post about it, which, arguably may be long overdue, but other people do not deserve to go through what my community and many others have to endure.

If you're in London, you may be familiar with the events that happened at Grenfell Tower. A fire started in one of the flats, however, it managed to spread easily because of the material that surrounded the building on its outside walls. As a result, there were many casualties and light was shed on how badly blocks of flats owned by the council were built.

In order to avoid those events occurring again, blocks of flats are now being renovated – from the outside only – to change to safer, less flammable materials being used on its exterior. This resulted in me having scaffolding surrounding the building I live in and workers walking past my windows daily. It's made being at home (and especially working from home) a lot more difficult and uncomfortable because these workers often make a lot of noise whilst doing their jobs and having them walk past your window is not comforting, especially not for a hijabi.

Whilst there's nothing I can do to make it stop, or make it end faster, what I can do is use this as an example as to why we should never cut corners.

Why Shouldn't We cut Corners?

There are many reasons why we shouldn't cut corners, and should just do the job properly, here are five reasons:

  1. It has a better Long Term Impact - if you do a job properly, it won't come back to you in the future. You won't have to fix it, saving time and your energy and your effort. Also, you won't have to go through any legal problems or have to rebuild relationships, because there won't be any victims to your faults, whether they are civilians, clients, or customers.

  2. You'll have Better Quality – if you do the job properly, the outcome will last longer and generate better satisfaction from you and others, which could attract more people towards it, generating better results.

  3. It's improves Reputation – the outcome and results that you generate will impact your reputation as that is what other people will look at when deciding if you are trustworthy. This may include maintaining ethical considerations so that you don't compromise anyone safety, integrity, or legality to ensure professionalism.

  4. There will be more Personal Development - when you do a job properly and give it your time and effort and attention you'll be able to learn and improve. This way you can learn new skills, improve your abilities, and personally grow in more than one way.

  5. You gain more Satisfaction - if whatever you are doing is for a client, they will be a lot happier with the outcome because you have met or exceeded their expectation, proving that you are professional, reliable, and respectful to their needs. Like this, they will have a positive feedback, promote your services by recommending them to others and coming back to you in the future. Also, when you do things properly, you are a lot more satisfied with the results because you know you gave it your all, maintained quality and have now achieved positive work ethic.

These are only a few things you could receive as a result of doing things properly and not cutting corners. It is true that it requires more time and effort in the short term, but it is worth it when you look at the long-term results. This is because it's now beneficial not only to you but to others and has minimised any risks of there being any problems, hence it's very important. It doesn't matter how big or small whatever it is that you are doing or how great of an impact it may have, NEVER cut corners and make shortcuts: the end results are never the same as if you did it properly.

That's all from me today. I'll see you in my next post! Take care of yourself and others! ;)
