Work Until Your Idols Become Your Rivals
If I’m honest with you, I don’t know the origin of this quote, just that I found it on the internet… again. The thing is, I just couldn’t shake off this quote because it hit me hard.
Everyone has a dream. And every dreamer has someone that they look up to because they’ve already achieved that dream. And it's only natural that we’d want to become like the people we look up to, to have an identity like theirs.
That could only be achieved by working hard in order to reach that level and make the dream a reality. If you want it bad enough, then it is achievable. You will get there. You will become the person you want to be. You will stand amongst your idols. But standing amongst them and being like them is not enough. Whoever they may be, you’ve got to be one of them too and that will make you their rival. Becoming their rival will spur you on to progress even more than you ever thought possible, making you really cement what was once a dream as your reality.
For example, you may want to become a successful CEO, looking up to the likes of Elon Must and Mark Zuckerberg. If you work hard enough, you could make your business such a success that one day you’ll find yourself on the Forbes list competing for ‘richest person in the world’.
Or if you love football and aspire to become a professional footballer, you may look up to athletes such as Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar etc. etc. Before you know it, if you put in the work and all, you’ll be playing matches against them as was the case for Kylian Mbappe, who once dreamed of becoming a pro footballer and is now considered a future GOATs of the sport.
I know that once you achieve your dream and find yourself competing against your idols, you may feel as though you aren’t cut out for it and that you cannot do better than them. However, if you start thinking like that, I want you to remember that you’ve worked hard for this and you’ve achieved it despite all the odds. That means that you deserve this identity and that, really and truly, there isn’t a difference between yourself and them as you have all worked hard to be in that position.
No matter what your dream is, work hard for it and do not quit on it. You can do it. You will do it. There are people who have achieved your goal before you, but know that never means that you cannot catch up and be better than they are. Most of all, you are doing this for yourself, no one else, so ‘Work Until Your Idols Become Your Rivals’.
That’s all from me today. I’ll see you in my next post! Now show the world what they’ve been missing! ;)
